Fanfic News and Notes

I kinda dropped off the face of the earth. I need to explain why.

As many of you know, I have a family, and in March, that family started to unravel at the seams. We foster and adopt, and three of our beloved children began having serious issues that had to be dealt with. Our adopted daughter began having serious behavioral issues. Our foster daughter returned to her drug habit, and our adopted son was diagnosed and hospitalized with schizophrenia. To add to the mess, my birth child graduated and moved off to college. I had to focus on my children and husband and walk away from the fan fiction world I love.

I would love to give you a happy ending to all of that, but unlike fanfic, life doesn’t often give happy endings. It does, by the grace of God, give resolution and second chances. My son is controlled and content and doing well in a residential treatment center. My adopted daughter is working hard on rage issues, and her disorder is now under control. My foster daughter graduated, moved out and is trying to be a responsible young adult and find a job. They each still struggle, but they are all trying and that’s all I can ask.

While I was away, I wrote an original manuscript I’m trying to get published. I also wrote and rewrote much of Rogue, because I lost the flash drive it was on, and have expanded We Who Are Left Behind. I will be finishing Rogue as quickly as my wife/teacher/mother/Scout leader life will let me. Both stories are important to me, and I want to finish them and do them justice.

I love the fanfic world, and I didn’t want to leave. I enjoy writing for others and love being in a creative community where we all write simply for the joy of writing. I’ve missed you, and I appreciate each and every one of you for being a part of my life.

I’ll keep to you all posted on the publishing thing.

Thank you for sticking with me and for reading my often crappy and sometimes sappy stuff,

Kayla (Openhome)

I have periodically checked your fanfic site hoping that you would be back and a little worried that you weren’t able to update. I am glad things are starting to smooth out for you a bit and hope that they continue to do so. I am glad you are back! Let us know when you get your story published, I would love to check it out.

I’m glad to see you back, and even happier to know that you’ve been able to get your family back on a resonable track. Families are hard, and they are definatly a priority, so I understand the long break. Real life has a way of interuputing our make-believe worlds, where everything is perfect. I wish you luck in your publishing, and continue to look forward to everything you provide for us to read 🙂

    Sitaray….

I was basically curious about if you ever thought of switching the design of your website? Its very well written; I enjoy what youve got to state. But maybe you could add a a bit more in the way of written content so people might connect to it better. You have got a great deal of wording for only having one or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?

    • You are absolutely right about spacing it out and writing more. Due to other writing commitments, my blog has fallen behind. In fact, I’m not even at a computer and haven’t been for two weeks. As soon as I can, I plan to focus my energies on my blog and creating a writing schedule.
